A new event, Mama's Calf Catch, was crafted locally in an effort to expand the offering of so called camp events. Up to eight two-person teams congregate at a start-finish line at one end of the arena where they are given a poker chip with a number written on it. A group of calves with identically numbered poker chips tied around their necks are released into the opposite end of the arena. A judge whistles the start of the event. Team members then scramble to find the calf in the arena with a numbered chip matching theirs.
The team that brings its calf's poker chip back across the start-finish line first wins. Teams may be disqualified for interfering with others or for roughing the calves. Our bull rider got involved in this one, but for some reason none of the cowboys went after his poker chip. This is a fun event to watch as the cows try to keep away from the cowboys. (These numbered chips are not to be confused with unnumbered cow chips.)
