On October 21, we closed up the home and headed out for what was going to be a five month trip. We planned first to visit New Orleans for a convention, and then drive on into Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. On the second day out Frank had some minor chest pain which he thought was heartburn. But on the third day the pain came back with a vengeance and his left arm hurt. He was having a heart attack. Tom called 911 and got directions to the nearest hospital. We drove there and their emergency room determined Frank was indeed having a heart attack. They transported him to a hospital thirty miles away which specialized in cardiac care. While Frank was being moved via ambulance, Tom repositioned the trailer in a campground nearer to the second hospital. Frank remained in the Cookeville Regional Medical Center , an excellent hospital, for 5 days and had two heart scan operations. The first scan resulted in their trying to treat him with a medicines only regimen. But three days later Frank still had chest pains....so they went back in and placed two stents in his heart. He was released the next day and we headed back home.
We are now home and Frank is recovering with the assistance of an excellent cardiologist and a bevy of other doctors. They are adjusting his meds and he has even started to exercise. We bought a recumbent bike which he uses daily and he is losing weight.
