Steer Decorating Doctoring cattle on the range is an everyday procedure which any cowhand worth his salt can do with ease. The arena event that developed from this everyday job can be quite an act to watch. The object of steer decorating is to tie a ribbon around a wild and wooly steer's tail within 60 seconds. With the steer constantly moving, it is hard to accomplish this chore without getting behind him, which is not the best place to be! The event begins with the steer in the chute with a rope tied around its horns. One member of the team pulls the steer from the chute while the other attempts to decorate the steer, after it has all four hoofs across a 10-foot line. Time ends when the ribbon is tied, the rope removed from the steer's horns and the team member who tied the ribbon touches the timer. |
