Denver and the Rockies
July found us back in Denver. We went for the rodeo, but spent a week touring the mountains. First stop was Rocky Mountain National Park.

The Rockies looked as pristine as they ever have. Yes, still some snow in July. Actually, snow there year round!
Frank standing near a much needed resting bench. Oxygen is thinner here and resting feels...goooood!!!!
Storms are seen off in the distance. Actually visitors were recently killed due to intense lightning strikes. But the scenery is marvelous.
Frank walking down to the Moffat tunnel. A train tunnel about six miles long through the Rockies Front Range. At times it was easier to tunnel through the mountain than have the train climb over.
The Moffat tunnel took four years of digging to complete. Actually a train came through while we were there.
This is the car we rented for the week in Denver. A 1999 Ford Expedition. Not a bad car, but not one either of us would want to buy. It is amazing at the numerous sharp edges one can get one's hand caught on and cut or scraped.
Not a bad shot..at least the background is nice. Wonder why the person taking the picture kept saying..."Just a few more steps backward please!"...actually, Frank used a tripod.
Mountain Goats after minerals, mostly salt, in the ground. Much of the salt is from cars making the trip in wintery conditions.
Tom's shot of twin kids. They were friendly, but mother was somewhat upset with Tom's closeness to her youngins.
The parking lot below the summit of Mount Evans.
Frank at the summit. Loose footing here could be disastrous.
Tom in the kitchen at Resident's Inn in Denver. Blue cheese of course.
South Park in the Rockies.
Frank at a spot his Dad had stopped at many times when he visited here.
The TarryAll River Ranch is where Frank and his father stayed for several days back in the 1960s.
Another picture of the TarryAll River Ranch complex.
A Volunteer at Florissant Fossil Beds, west of Denver.
Remnants of three fossilized trees...thousands of years old.
Another fossilized tree.
The backside of the Rockies Front Range. Beyond these mountains are Denver and Colorado Springs and the Plains.
A closing picture of the beauty of the mountains. At least a closing for this trip!
